Maharashtra Extends Stamp Duty Amnesty Scheme 2023: Unmatched Relief for Property Owners

The Government of Maharashtra has introduced an extension to the Maharashtra Stamp Duty Amnesty Scheme 2023, which aims to remit or reduce stamp duty and penalties on certain instruments under the Maharashtra Stamp Act. The scheme initially applied to instruments executed between January 1, 1980, and December 31, 2020, and was to be implemented in two phases. The first phase was extended until February 29, 2024, and the second phase was extended multiple times, with the latest extension pushing the deadline to August 31, 2024. This scheme is applicable to unstamped documents, such as the first allotment letters, agreements, or share certificates, issued by registered cooperative housing societies, MHADA, CIDCO, MIDC, municipal bodies, or other government-approved authorities. The government introduced this scheme in the public interest to provide financial relief to property owners dealing with historical documentation issues. To read more, click here.
